Cannock Chase District Council is delivering a transformative £26 million regeneration programme to revitalise the town centre and attract long-term investment. The programme is focused on unlocking key development sites through phased demolition of outdated infrastructure, including a multi-storey car park, indoor market hall, and former shopping centre, and delivering a vibrant, mixed-use environment for retail, leisure, civic, residential and public realm uses.

Continuum has been appointed to provide strategic and operational support across the full programme lifecycle, from funding and site assembly to demolition management and investment promotion, helping to create a cleared, development-ready opportunity in the heart of Cannock.

Services Provided

Continuum is working in close partnership with Cannock Chase District Council, delivering multidisciplinary support across the regeneration programme. Services include:

  • Advising the Council on strategic site acquisition and assembly

  • Managing the planning and delivery process, including demolition and procurement

  • Leading engagement with MHCLG to protect and optimise grant funding

  • Developing governance frameworks and managing relationships with senior Council officers and members

  • Promoting the development opportunity to the private sector and investment community

  • Coordinating programme timelines to align phased demolition with future delivery opportunities

Outputs

Continuum’s leadership is helping to shape a deliverable, investor-ready regeneration platform in Cannock town centre. Key outcomes to date include:

  • Demolition underway on former multi-storey car park and redundant shopping centre

  • Phase 1: Clearance of indoor market hall and car park; site prepared for redevelopment

  • Phase 1A: Northern Gateway works including:

    • Demolition of retail units

    • Upgrade of Beecroft car park

    • Creation of a new pedestrian route

    • Development site for a two-storey food & beverage unit

  • Phase 2: Part-demolition of Forum Shopping Centre and Cabot/Mewsbrook retail parade, unlocking further development potential

  • Site transformation positioning Cannock town centre for a new mixed-use future

  • Strengthened governance, funding assurance, and investor engagement strategy
